This is a class that is open to all dog breeds and dogs who are at least 6 months old. No prior training is required. Due to the nature of this sport only one dog will be working on the course at a time.
Training topics taught in classes will include:
These skills in particular will be worked on at length during class in order to prepare you and your dog for all levels offered at a Barn Hunt Association sanctioned trial. This includes helping the handler learn to “read” their dog so they can differentiate between a live Rat in a PVC tube, from a tube filled with used litter or tube that is a completely empty.
Please bring a hungry dog to class along with small sized soft treats. Bring fresh water and a bowl for your dog, along with an x-pen or crate for your dog. If not already on file, you must bring an updated copy of your shot records.

- Overview of Barn Hunt Rules
- Introducing your dog to a live Rat
- How to navigate a straw bale course
- Trial preparation
- The climb element
- The tunnel element
- Locating the correct tube containing a live Rat
- Instinct, Novice, Open, Senior, & Master level training is available as you and your dog progress.
